If you get the Orange County Business Journal [SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED] you might have seen an article about the planned expansion of the CSUF Startup Incubator into Irvine and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the prospect. Right now, we are thinking that the Irvine expansion will open its doors in September (of this year) but that is not set in stone. The expansion is part of Cal State Fullerton’s overall expansion in Irvine and it’s located in the building next door to the current building being used on Banting.
About a month ago, the CSUF Startup Incubator Expansion Committee toured the facilities and discussed expansion strategies. The location is very nice but there is still some work to be done. Speaking of work, we are still in the process of determining the expansion strategy into Irvine.
Irvine does have a more mature startup scene than does the CSUF area and our Placentia-based Incubator. This means that there are more startups starting, more entrepreneurs, and more opportunities for technology-based concepts in Irvine. In the article, Director Jackson intimated that our strategy might tend towards startups that have progressed more than the early-stage startups that we currently work with. But, we’re not sure yet which direction we’re going to take.
Whatever the case may be, we’re going to bring the same passion that we have for assisting startups to any new locations that we open, including the Irvine location. We are excited about this opportunity and we look forward to seeing what we can do for CSUF students, alumni, and the surrounding community.
