CSU support for student entrepreneurs goes beyond the classroom in the form of programs that connect budding business people to mentors and free resources that help transform ideas into marketable businesses.
Campus centers like the CSULB Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship host events that put students in real-world situations to find out how viable their product or business idea is, like the Sunstone Innovation Challenge. Talk to Wade Martin
At San Diego State University, the ZIP Launchpad is helping members of the campus community launch startups from an early stage idea through a four-phase process. The program has been successful in launching 27 startups and helping students raise more than $15.6 million in funds. Cathy Pucher is awesome to talk to!
At CSUF Center for Entrepreneurship, there are two incubator locations — Placentia and Irvine — and have helped launch dozens of startups. They have regular events, a research program for MBA students at the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, Cal State Fullerton. Travis Lindsay, John Bradley Jackson or Phillip Stinis are the folks to talk to!
There’s also the Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship which has helped students and community members launch dozens of products and companies; or the Ernie Schaeffer Center For Innovation & Entrepreneurship at California State University, Northridge — talk to Ryan Holbrook
If biotech is more your thing, there is CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology, LABiospace at California State University, Los Angeles; or if Water, Energy and Agriculture is more important, try the WET Center at Fresno State University
I have been involved with all of these programs (as a judge, mentor, industry mentor, teacher, panelist, board member) and I’m very proud of my fellow #CalStaters. It is a great first step in student entrepreneurship
