Special Event – VC investor Bruce Hallett and startup founder Michael Hajeck, Wed, November 13, 2019 6:00 PM at CSUF Startup Incubator

About this Event

Join the CSUF Startup Incubator in welcoming Bruce Hallett, co-founder and GP of Miramar Digital Ventures (with a portfolio of over 60 startup and early stage company investments) and Michael Hajeck, former SVP at Western Digital and founder of SiliconSytems, Inc., one of Miramar’s early portfolio companies that was acquired by Western Digital. They will offer their perspectives on how VC investors evaluate startups and early stage companies for funding opportunities, intellectual property due diligence, how valuations and other funding terms are negotiated with VCs, and what advantages (and/or disadvantages) flow from having a VC investor overseeing management and actively participating on the company’s board of directors.

This event is also a great time to network. Network with the speakers, network with other entrepreneurs, network with investors, and network with all types of professionals and innovators.

The Speakers

Bruce Hallett: Bruce is a co-founder of Miramar Digital Ventures and brings his enthusiasm for innovation, product strategy and team building to Miramar’s portfolio of tech startup companies. With over two decades of collaborations with technology entrepreneurs, Bruce co-leads Miramar investments in the Data, IoT and AI markets. Currently, Bruce serves on the board of WellTok. He also served on the board of directors of Aktino (acquired by Positron), Berkana Wireless (acquired by Qualcomm), OptionEase (acquired by Solium) and RealPractice (acquired by ReachLocal).

Prior to founding Miramar, Bruce was Managing Partner of the Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison Orange County office, where he managed IPOs, venture financings and liquidity events for many high profile technology companies in Southern California including Broadcom, Buy.com, Exult and Applied Semantics (acquired by Google in 2003). Bruce was one of seven partners on Brobeck’s firm-wide executive committee until he started Miramar in 2001.

Bruce received his BA magna cum laude from UC Irvine and his JD from UCLA. From 2007-2010, he was Chair of the Chief Executive Roundtable at UC Irvine and from 2010-2012 Bruce served as UC Alumni Regent on the Board of Regents of the University of California. He currently serves on UC President Janet Napolitano’s Innovation Council and is a member of the UCLA Venture Fund.

Michael Hajeck: Founder/CEO of Silicon Systems (one of Miramar’s first investments). In Bruce Hallett’s words: “After being tortured by Miramar and other investors for about 5 years, Mike Hajeck successfully sold Silicon Systems to Western Digital, where they tortured him some more (but differently)!”
