We just welcomed another Resident to the CSUF Startup Incubator! This company’s mission is to revolutionize philanthropy through technological innovation. The founder for this company has an impressive background and I am sure that I will be writing more about hist startup in the future.

Changing gears to CSUF students, a little over a week ago we had the opportunity to listen to some concepts from student-entrepreneurs from all across CSUF and we are now ready to announce who among them will be advancing to the CSUF Business Plan Competition Finals (register here!):

The CSUF Business Plan Competition Finals are this Thursday, April 7 (register now!). It all starts at noon with an hour long Innovation Fair where students, Incubator Residents, and our partners will be showcasing the interesting projects they are working on. Attendees will get the chance to listen to the three concepts from the Finalists starting at 1pm and all of the festivities should wrap up around 3pm with the announcement of the winner!

(And we also will be handing out a number of opportunity drawings, including $200 worth of gift cards to Amazon, throughout the competition!)

Also this week, we welcome Joe Burke to the CSUF Startup Incubator to give a talk titled The Importance of Narrative in Startup Marketing. This promises to be an amazing talk focusing on how to craft an effective story about your company to help you in many facets of your business including: marketing, brand building, on boarding new talent, etc.

For decades, California State University, Fullerton’s undergraduate and MBA students have done consulting projects for local businesses. Under the supervision of their Professors and executive-level mentors these teams have developed detailed plans for clients ranging from brand new startups to $150MM corporations.For the Summer session we are looking for five clients for our MBA program. These projects are the culmination of these students’ MBA education; this is their capstone project. We are searching for clients that want a 360 degree fresh look at their business. These clients will receive a comprehensive report detailing the recommendations that the MBA students develop over the course of the summer.

Joe Burke has been a marketing executive for decades for companies including Disney and Goodwill. In this talk, Joe will talk about the archetypal narratives that every successful marketer must know and be familiar with.He will draw on his experiences as a marketing executive and as a writer to explain what the different archetypes are, how they have been utilized in the past, and how you can apply them to your startup story.

CSUF’s student-entrepreneurs have been hard at work on their concepts and now the best will get the chance to pitch our elite panel of judges in a bid to win scholarships and in-kind services. Dr. Gerard Beenen has had an illustrious career in organizational development with stops at Ernst & Young Management Consulting, Bain & Company, VP and co-founder of Neodesic Corporation and FleetXchange.com where he raised $3.2MM in financing, and now Associate Professor of Management and Management Department Vice-Chair at California State University, Fullerton. Robert Gates accepting scholarship from Victoria and Jerry Conrey.

Jerry Conrey has been a tremendous supporter of CSUF Entrepreneurship over the years as a mentor, speaker, and sponsor of the Conrey Insurance Brokers and Risk Managers Entrepreneurial Scholarship every year.Jerry will be at the Incubator to give a brief 15 minute talk on risk management and will dedicate the remainder of the time to answering your questions about insurance and risk management.
