CSUF Entrepreneurship Success Story: Tristan Schmitt launches startup called Modern Zinc

A few days ago we posted CSUF Entrepreneurship Success Story: Tristan Schmitt ’16 and it is about Tristan, a recent CSUF Entrepreneurship grad, has already launched a business in a unique niche.

We have many of these stories and to make sure that you never miss any of them make sure to become a CSUF Entrepreneurship Insider. What follows is our weekly update to the CSUF Entrepreneurship community.

Tristan Schmitt ’16 graduated in May with Bachelors’ Degrees in Finance and Entrepreneurship and has leveraged that education to help him launch his startup: Modern Zinc!

“The concept of Modern Zinc came not long before my [Entrepreneurship] 465A Venture Creation class at CSUF. At that point Modern Zinc was just an idea with no real plan for the future. Throughout the [Entrepreneurship] 465A class I worked closely with a group of classmates, mentor, and professor to turn this idea into a realistic business,” Tristan says in our Success Story we published about him a few days ago.

Launching a business at any age is a true accomplishment but to do so when so young is all the more impressive. I hope you have the time to check out the full story on his entrepreneurial endeavors linked to above.

We are always looking for ways to motivate everyone in our expanding community to take the entrepreneurial path that Tristan has taken. It is a difficult path but it can be immensely rewarding.

The upcoming Titan Fast Pitch competition is one of the ways that we are encouraging students to be more entrepreneurial. This competition requires students to be able to articulate their business concept in 60 seconds and for those who advance to the final round they will have to answer some questions from our judges about their business concepts. There are scholarships available to the top finishers but the main reward for competitors is getting the chance to work their entrepreneurial muscles out and meeting many other innovative people.

Take a look at the Titan Fast Pitch site and make sure to reserve your place their either as a competitor or as an audience member. Also, if you interested in being a judge during the first round please respond to this. Ditto if you are interested in being a donor.

Sincerely,

John Bradley Jackson
Director, CSUF Center for Entrepreneurship

There is always a lot of promise in startups: the sky is the limit!
But getting from startup to a sustainable and profitable business is not easy. It’s a difficult undertaking that most entrepreneurs, especially first time entrepeneurs, aren’t prepared for. Basically, trying to take a startup and make it into a successful business for most people is like trying to find buried treasure without a map.
That is why we are so glad to have Jeff Greenberg in to talk. He has six key metrics that he uses that determine how well a startup is doing in making that transition into a successful business. Those metrics are: Product, Management, Financing, Staffing, Revenue, and Operations. Come by to find out what these metrics are, how to interpret them, and how they change as a startup evolves into a successful business.
